100 Words About Love

100 Words About Love

My October Hello Writer Subscription included a prompt to write a 100-word story about love. I decided to take this on because my next project is a historical romance, and I thought this would be the perfect thing to get me in the right mind frame for writing a romance. Then I realized, I had no idea where to start.

What is an eBook?

What is an eBook?

If you type “what is an eBook?” in the Google search bar, you’ll get a result that tells you it’s “an electronic version of a printed book that can be read on a computer or handheld device designed specifically for this purpose”. What You Need to Know About Profit and ROI

What You Need to Know About Profit and ROI

As a former accountant, I get really annoyed when people use terms like “profit” and “ROI” incorrectly, especially in their marketing material. As I research different methods to market my books, I have been bombarded with emails to join courses. This is all well and good, I signed up to learn more about these courses, but lately, one of the course providers made the claim that I would only have to sell 20 books at $10 each to recover the cost of the course.

Why Publishing Fiction is Frightening but Worth the Scare

Why Publishing Fiction is Frightening but Worth the Scare

My debut novel, Murder Audit, is launching today, almost two years after I started the first draft. Although I’m really excited about it, I’ve been reluctant to announce the release. While finalizing the files for publishing, I realized I could have published the novel a lot sooner than I did, but I was struck by fear.

Later, I laughed at myself as I drove home,  sipping my latte. I work from home, and I was, in fact, heading to work. I had a lot of exciting things planned that day: write a couple blog posts, edit one I'd written another day, and record some videos for my Skillshare course (affiliate link).

Would You Tell the Truth No Matter What Was at Risk?

Would You Tell the Truth No Matter What Was at Risk?

When I started writing Murder Audit, besides wanting to show that accountants are more than short men with bow ties and glasses held together with tape, I knew I wanted to focus on the fiduciary duty a professional accountant has to their client. This is a professional ethical relationship built on the highest trust. Sadly, when I was a CPA, I met a number of people in the profession whose ethics I questioned. If you read Murder Audit, you will see that David, the antagonist, has no ethics.

I think it was a couple of years ago when I first met Dave Charbonneau in a Facebook group. He had an interesting sounding Facebook group of his own, The 15 Minute Business, that I decided to join. In the group, Dave shared lots of helpful business tips and introduced a program he was beta testing.
