"People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it." - Simon Sinek
Making your business stand out is easier than you might think. You can do so by working within your zone of genius.
What is your zone of genius?
It is where your greatest passion meets your God-given gifts. Your zone is unique to you. Think of it as your unique fingerprint. When you're working within your zone, you get so lost in your work that you don't realize time has passed. Working within your zone of genius helps you fulfill your purpose in life and energizes you to make a greater impact on the world.
How can you find your zone of genius?
I'm about to walk you through a simple process that'll help you identify your God-given gifts and what your life purpose is. I know you want to make an IMPACT and there's no better way to do that than by using your gifts, doing what you love and sharing it with the world by fulfilling your life's purpose!
JOURNAL
Take 15-30 minutes and journal the following questions. It is important that you have time to focus on each question so that you can get to the core of who you are and why you do what you do. This will require you to "dive deep" into your inner being and determine what your unique gifts are. Let's get started!
Journal the following questions:
· What is your greatest passion?
o Expert tip: It’s the activity or activities that you could do for hours with pure joy and not even realize any time has passed.
· What are your God-given gifts? What can you do better than anyone else that comes naturally to you?
· How do you do what you do differently than others?
o Expert tip: It’s not about what you do, but HOW you do it that makes it unique!
· What do you love to do that doesn’t feel like work?
o Expert tip: If it feels like work or if others praise you on it but you don’t feel energized by it, then it’s not your zone of genius.
· What could your parents always catch you doing as a child? What were you passionate about as a child?
· What about the work you do creates the highest form of satisfaction for the time spent?
· When you are being the best version of yourself, what are you doing?
· When you are the best version of yourself, the thing you love the most about it is?
ASK YOUR CIRCLE OF INFLUENCE
We all have our circle of influence that gives us advice and sometimes unsolicited advice that we often cringe when we receive it. Right? I mean, we have ALL been there.
Another way to help you identify what your unique gifts are is to ask those around you that know you best. Seek out your friends, family, bosses, current or past clients that will be honest with you about your unique gifts. I bring up honesty because quite frankly, you'd be surprised how many people will tell you rubbish just to make you feel better. You want to ask your circle of influence for the TRUTH. Even if you don't agree with what they have to say, you must hear them out.
Here are some questions that you can ask your circle of influence to help you find your zone of genius:
· What five adjectives would you use to describe me?
· What do you feel are my greatest strengths?
· What do you feel are my unique gifts?
The insights you receive from your loved ones is your way to being able to explore what your unique gifts are through the eyes of someone else. I find that it's often difficult to look at ourselves objectively and praise ourselves. We tend to want to be humble and brush off the things we do as "average" or "not that great". However, no one can do what you do better than you because you have a unique way of doing it!
Are there other singers, painters, coaches, copywriters, authors, etc. out there? Sure! However, when you look at HOW you do what you do, then you set yourself apart from the rest. What you bring to the table is your unique fingerprint in this equation. No one can 100% mirror what you do. They may try, but they'll fail.
You have greatness within you! You have gifts that are meant to be shared with the world. Now is your time to shine!
LOOK FOR THE COMMONALITIES
Now that you have armed yourself with amazing information both from yourself by doing some deep inner work and from asking your loved ones, now you can try to put the pieces together.
What I suggest is that you take all of the information and compile it so that you can visually see the information in one place. You may even need to get out a dictionary or a thesaurus so that you can find similar words that may mean the same thing. This will help you cross reference the common themes that you and your loved ones are seeing. The more commonalities, the greater the strength!
Once you start seeing the common theme, then it's a very good indicator that it is your zone of genius! Harness the power of working within your zone. When you do, everything will flow better and you'll feel more at ease and alignment within your life and business. Who wouldn't want that, right?
Therefore, take some time to really hone in on what you're amazing at. It's imperative for the success of your business because nobody likes a copycat. Your zone of genius + your unique brand voice = a recipe for massive success!
