Happy World Poetry Day 2019!

When people think of poems, they often go straight to love poems, but there are many different forms of poetry. You could say there’s something for everyone! I thought it would be fun to share the beginning of my rhyming picture book designed to teach kids the value of budgeting and taking good care of their money. It will also be fun to look back on this post and see how much my illustrations have changed!

Enjoy!

First draft of Scruffy and his cake in watercolour.

Scruffy Muffin Loses His Money

Scruffy Muffin is a happy pup.

With many friends to play and jump.

Scruffy’s turning five today.

He can’t wait to run and play.

His friends know what will make him smile:

A new chew toy to last a while.

It must be extra strong and tough,

‘Cause Scruffy can be kind of rough.

Nobody knows which toy to buy.

The friends look at each other and sigh.

It has to be the perfect one,

So Scruffy can have lots of fun.

The friends put on their thinking caps.

Time goes by and then at last,

Scruffy’s friends scratch their heads.

They will give him cash instead.

So, the title is a bit of a spoiler alert - Scruffy does lose his money! What will he do now?
